CRI (Color Rendering Index) has been the default metric used by the lighting industry to predict color quality outcomes for nearly 50 years. Despite known shortcomings, it has remained relatively unchanged throughout most of its existence. Today, concerns that this outdated metric can no longer reliably predict results that match our visual assessment has brought renewed interest in seeking a better way to evaluate light source color rendition. In this course we’ll explore TM-30, the method for evaluating light source color rendition developed by the IES, as an improved alternative to CRI.
