Outdoor Living Space Design

Kevin Stephenson, Pennsylvania registered Landscape Architect practicing in Montgomery County with over 40 years of experience. His passion and career focus has been structural landscape design to facilitate the occupancy and enjoyment of outdoor places with the most important feature in the landscape being the person in it.

This course focuses on the designing of garden and landscape spaces that are accessible and accommodating for people. The design composition of the vegetation is appreciated best if the needs of the visitor are well planned for and incorporated into the design. Without getting too technical, we will discuss basic components such as walk surfacing, lighting and furnishings that if done correctly, go unnoticed, but are key to designing a satisfying, people friendly outdoor environment for work, play, and living. This class meets in the Arboretum’s Visitor Center. This class has been approved for LA CES credits for Landscape Architects (1.5 Professional Development Hours).
