Chair(s): Members at Large

Purpose:

The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting new members and for maintaining current members.  It is also responsible for seeking volunteering, networking and continuing education opportunities to help fresh landscape architecture professional kickstart their career and find  their influence on the job market and in the community.

Tasks:

The Membership Committee has been charged by the Chapter Executive Committee to perform the following tasks:

Short Term:

  • Have each Section identify non-ASLA practitioners; the Committee should develop a master list for the Chapter.
  • Develop proposals for a new membership incentive programs.
  • Try to pinpoint the “leak” in why students do not join ASLA after graduation.  Develop a plan to get ASLA more visible to students.
  • Target recent graduates for membership.
  • Organizing educational seminars, study groups and social events for networking and self improvement; coordinating with similar organizations and groups to find common grounds for development.

Long Term:

  • Obtain support documents and a list of prospective and new members from National ASLA.
  • Obtain list of registered landscape architects; use list to identify prospective members.
  • Disseminate prospective and new member lists to each Section.
  • Assist, monitor and coordinate Section efforts in contacting prospective and new members.
  • Make sure membership applications are available at the Chapter Executive Office and at all major Chapter functions.
  • Keep updated listing of ASLA and Chapter benefits.
  • Develop “welcome package” to be sent to each new member.
  • Organizing educational seminars, study groups and social events for networking and self improvement; coordinating with similar organizations and groups to find common grounds for development.

Committee Representation:

Members should include one member from each Section.
